C3’s CMMC Ready® Program

The CMMC Ready Program is C3’s structured pre-assessment engagement designed to bridge the gap between CMMC implementation and assessment readiness. It’s a proven methodology that helps organizations confidently achieve CMMC Level 2 certification by ensuring they can demonstrate clear, defensible compliance with every requirement. The program is available exclusively for organizations using C3 Command or C3 Catalyst and includes evidence collection, documentation review, mock assessments, and hands-on support during the actual assessment. 

The CMMC Ready Program is a required project for all C3 Command and C3 Catalyst clients as they approach their CMMC Level 2 assessment. The CMMC Ready Program ensures that organizations minimize uncertainty, avoid last-minute surprises, and increase assessment confidence through thorough preparation.  

The CMMC Ready Program consists of three critical phases: (1) Evidence Preparation – collecting, generating, and organizing evidence artifacts to support each assessment objective; (2) Pre-Assessment Readiness Review – conducting a mock assessment or comprehensive tabletop exercise with compliance experts and ideally a C3PAO to identify gaps before the real assessment; and (3) Assessment Support – providing hands-on guidance and representation during the actual assessment to ensure accurate presentation of controls and evidence. 

During Evidence Preparation, C3 works with you to establish proof and eliminate guesswork by collecting and organizing all evidence needed for your assessment. This includes identifying the strongest evidence for each requirement, compiling artifacts such as service tickets, training records, configuration reports, and screenshots, organizing evidence to align with your System Security Plan (SSP) and procedures, collecting proof of change management and maintenance activities, and designating the right representatives to present evidence during the assessment. Everything is compiled into a structured, mapped evidence package that makes it easy for your team to explain and for assessors to follow. 

The Pre-Assessment Readiness Review is a practice run before your actual assessment. C3 facilitates a mock review of your System Security Plan (SSP) and evidence with compliance experts and technical specialists. Whenever possible, C3 engages a Certified CMMC Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO) to lead the mock, delivering the closest possible experience to the official audit. If a C3PAO mock isn’t available, C3 conducts a comprehensive tabletop exercise. This dry run validates evidence completeness and consistency, tests your team’s readiness to speak to client-managed practices, clarifies roles and responsibilities, and increases assessor confidence through well-organized presentations. 

A mock assessment is critical because CMMC assessments are unforgiving and often unpredictable. Even if your systems are technically sound, assessments can stall or fail due to poor evidence presentation, misaligned documentation, confusion around roles and responsibilities, or discrepancies between what’s documented and what’s actually practiced. The mock assessment identifies these issues before they become problems during the real assessment. It also helps your team practice their responses, build confidence, and understand what assessors are looking for. 

Yes, the CMMC Ready Program includes coaching sessions to prepare you and your team for the assessment. C3 walks you through how CMMC assessments operate, provides best practices for presenting evidence and responding to assessor questions, prepares you for areas you’ll likely need to address, and helps you understand roles and responsibilities during the assessment. This coaching ensures your team can confidently represent their responsibilities and demonstrate compliance effectively. 

During your real CMMC assessment, C3 provides hands-on support to ensure success. This includes active leadership from the C3 team to drive the assessment process, direct representation of the controls and services C3 manages, real-time advisory support for client-led portions of the assessment, coordination with the C3PAO (assessor), and assistance responding to any questions or requests that arise. You’re not alone during the assessment—C3 is there to ensure all C3-managed systems, processes, and controls are accurately represented. 

For C3 Command clients, the CMMC Ready Program is a comprehensive readiness program to drive confidence in your assessment across your entire compliance boundary. For C3 Catalyst clients that do not have another compliance resource, the program focuses on supporting those objectives where C3 plays a direct role in the technical environment. When Catalyst clients have a third-party compliance consultant, C3 begins with a Documentation Review & Alignment phase to ensure a unified approach between C3’s technical implementation and the consultant’s compliance documentation. 

For C3 Catalyst clients, the Documentation Review & Alignment phase ensures consistency between what’s documented and what’s actually implemented and operated by C3. This alignment is critical because the #1 pitfall in CMMC assessments is discrepancies between documentation and operational practices. C3 reviews policies, procedures, and the SSP to ensure they accurately reflect the technical environment and coordinates with your compliance consultant to resolve any gaps or misalignments before the assessment. 

Assessors need to see clear, organized evidence that proves you meet each assessment objective and maintain compliance over time. Poorly organized evidence creates confusion, wastes time, and can cause assessors to question whether you truly have controls in place. The timeline for the CMMC Ready Program depends on your current state of readiness, the size and complexity of your environment, and how far in advance you begin. Typically, organizations should plan for ~12 weeks to properly complete all three phases, especially if including a formal C3PAO-led mock assessment.
